Arts Award – Mayor David Ryan’s
Introduction
This award is given to one or more
individuals, groups or businesses from Pickering to recognize
significant artistic achievements within or outside of the
City, over the last year or more.
This year, the Arts Award goes to the
PineRidge Arts Council and I’d like to call upon all
Members of Council to assist with this presentation.
PineRidge Arts Council President Cathy
Schnippering is here this evening to collect the award. Cathy
and members of PineRidge Arts Council, could you please stand
Since its founding in 1989, the PineRidge
Arts Council has helped nurture a widespread appreciation,
support and involvement in the arts.
This non-profit organization has created
venues for visual artists to promote and sell their work,
including its Annual Juried Art Show and unique Art in Public
Places program.
Through its ArtScene publication,
PineRidge Arts Council promotes communication among artists,
arts organizations and the public. It’s also committed to
developing partnerships with our corporate and business sectors
to increase the visibility of the arts.
Take a look around our community and
you’ll see beautiful projects created by many PineRidge
Arts Council members:
Home Place, Dorsey
James’ amazing wood carvings at Alex Robertson Community
Park;
Dreamscape, Edward
Falkenberg’s award-winning sculpture at Pickering Town
Centre;
The Millennium Mast, Ron
Baird’s waterfront sculpture
These creations help define our wonderful
City and are reflective of our community’s passion for
the arts!
Congratulations – PineRidges Arts
Council.
