CONTINUING:

to Dec 10 ~ Latcham Art Centre

Latcham Art Centrework from home
work from home includes artwork made during COVID-19, by past and present instructors, volunteers, staff and Board members of Latcham Art Centre. These works were created while much of the global workforce shifted from working in-office to working remotely. For some visual artists, their studios also moved into their homes. Creative time provided by the pandemic was abundant—for better or for worse—and the challenge of separating work, life and studio presented itself.

September 24th, 2022 – February 12th, 2023
Underpinned by feminist conceptions of the everyday as a basis for political engagement with the world, The Beyond Within proposes strategies for reorientation. In two videos made in collaboration with Paris-based artist Maïder Fortuné, pedagogical roles are underwritten by radical forms of intimacy.

RMGLoose Parts
The theory of loose parts is a learning strategy that encourages the development of creative problem-solving skills through tactile play. Adopted as the title of this exhibition, the spirit of loose parts is carried into a collection of artworks that engage with repetitive acts of assembly.
A loving embrace of queerness and being in flux, the exhibition, "Loose Parts" takes pleasure in the beauty, openness, and potential of in-between spaces and holding things lightly. Artists sophia bartholomew, Akash Inbakumar, and Justin Mezzapelli do this with intention, creating laborious works that unfasten and reorder social structures and conceptions of self through a queer lens.

RMGKazuo Nakamura: Universal PatternKazuo Nakamura was a founding member of Painters Eleven (1953-60), Ontario’s first abstract art collective. Nakamura’s fascination with science and mathematics is evident throughout his career through his use of patterns, linear perspectives, and geometric forms. From the earliest landscapes and abstractions to his later mathematical explorations, Nakamura was seeking patterns in nature.

Maria Simmons will lead us through the landscape, introducing participants to the present ecology as we attune ourselves to fungal structures and basic flora identification techniques.
