demonstrates both her considerable technical skill and command
of a medium, but also her extraordinary visual acuity.

Tree”, a work that borders the line delineating the
representational from the abstract.

just what constitutes the beautiful.
Overall Juror's Comments
A common misperception about jurying
exhibitions of visual art is that the process entails little
more than separating the good stuff from the bad—you
know, separating the wheat from the proverbial chaff.
Of course, such an approach (would it
were even possible) has no place in the jurying process;
decision-making has nothing to do with such an
“either/or” approach, nor with any determination of
what is “good” or “bad” art. Rather,
the process is about balance – ensuring that a healthy
equilibrium is established, that (for example) representational
landscape doesn’t predominate over, say, portraiture, or
the non-representational.
I hope that the work selected for this
year’s Annual Juried Art Show accurately reflects the
broad spectrum of work being accomplished by visual artists of
the area. It was my very great pleasure to have had the honour
to participate as this year's juror and to see firsthand what
is being done, here. My thanks to all the artists who
participated by submitting work for consideration. My thanks
too to the PineRidge Arts Council for their gracious invitation
to be this year’s juror, and to my wife Heather for her
invaluable help and patience.
